James Jess Barclay, Jr., age 86, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 in a local healthcare facility. He was born, April 16, 1926 in Fannin County, Georgia to the late Abbey Faye & ames J. BarclaJy, Sr.
He was a graduate of Etowah High School and was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Barclay was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority after 43 years of service in the Hydro-Electric Division. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class and was also an Independent Federal Tax Preparer where he developed many friendships.
His brother, Leon Barclay and sister, Alice Watson preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Campbell Barclay, a native of Benton, Tennessee; two sons, Jim (Cathy) Barclay of Chattanooga; Reed (Cindy) Barclay of Charlotte, North Carolina; 4 grandsons, Andy, Mike, Josh, and Matthew Barclay; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. Jim Barclay officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Gene Painter, Bill Bradford, James Watson, David Watson, Josh Barclay, and Matthew Barclay serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel.
