John Henry Lumpkin Jr.

John Henry Lumpkin, Jr., age 76, of Chattanooga passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones the morning of Friday, May 19, 2023. John was born on February 13, 1947 in Chattanooga, TN.

John lived in Chattanooga all his life and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1965. He attended Hiawassee College and Cleveland State College. John was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was employed by Five Star Vending Service in Dalton, GA for 25 years, retiring in 2008. John loved spending time in nature, his favorite spots being the Chickamauga Battlefield, Great Smoky Mountains, and Signal Point. He was a wonderful musician, enjoying singing and guitar playing with his brothers and extended family members. John was an avid reader and lover of history. He passed his love of books on to his daughters through frequent trips to the library. The light of his life was his wife of 50 years, his “Beautiful Carol Ann,” with whom he was happy to spend all of his days.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Lumpkin, Sr. and Syble Key Lumpkin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Boggs Lumpkin; two daughters, Hayley (Nick) Turner, Allison (Blake) Jones; two brothers, Dan (Marla) Lumpkin, Mark (Karen) Lumpkin; granddaughter, Helen Rose Turner; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home of the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 2:30 pm at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
