He began his undergraduate studies at Cornell University and he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University. He went on to achieve his Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas after which he obtained his PHD from Ohio University.

He retired from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he held many leadership and faculty positions which included Provost and the Dean of the Arts and Sciences.

John was a great friend and a wonderful colleague at UTC. We shared many good times together in our breakfast club and and at the poker table. John helped countless students in the struggles in the classroom and in selecting a good career path. He will be missed by his many friends here and elsewhere. RIP John. Rocky Renneisen
