Girls,

Your mother was an absolute delight to know and be around her.  Please know you have been and will be in my prayers.  Praying for you to rest in God’s mercies and grace and the peace that only He can give...trusting Him to comfort you with the same comfort He gave me when my mother died.  What a wonderful heritage and legacy you have to pass on , but the loss still hurts.

Steve:
My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you and your family.  I pray you find peace knowing she is now with family and friends who passed before her.  She is now in the next phase of her life with our Lord.  Grieving is  difficult particularly during the holidays.  We all grieve differently, and  I hope you will find comfort in the memories of times shared within the family.  May our Lord watch over you and your family as someday you will be with Joyce and your family and friends who have gone before you.

I will always love mamma Joyce.  I am best friends with her daughter Holly. I remember getting ready at her house our senior prom and taking pictures on her front porch.  She loved you like you were her own.  She treated you like you were family. When Holly came to Athens for college, mamma Joyce sent the best , most amazing ham sandwiches that I have ever had.  When I had my wedding and they asked what food do you want , I said “Holly’s mom has to make her sandwiches “ and she did.  For me. ❤️ She was such a kind and loving person and I see that in her daughter Holly.   She was so kind to open her home and host my baby shower for my daughter, Jada .  Joyce, your love and caring spirit lives on through your family and all the lives you have touched , I know you have touched mine❤️

I am Nancy Green’s sister.  I remember Joyce from when her girls were at East Ridge Elementary.   I have met both  of you off and on through the years.  I think you knew Kenny and that was how you knew Nancy.

I know you were a good friend to Nancy and family. I’m sure you will miss Joyce greatly, But God will help you through.  One day soon we will be reunited with our loved ones and most importantly meet our Savior face to face.

If Joyce were in a room of 10 thousand people each one would believe they were her best friend as her greeting and smile gave that warmth to everyone around her.  She was indeed a nurturer to us all.  My love and sympathy to all those who rejoice in having had Joyce in their lives.  

I love Joyce and Steve! Her obituary sums it up well. She played such a healing part in my life! I loved being in their home and being part of their friends. I praise God that she was in my life. I will miss her greatly. Our loss is heaven's gain.

Sweet memories of Joyce as my student as East Ridge High School in the early seventies! Joyce was an exceptional precious soul who lived her faith daily. My heartfelt condolences to Heather, Holly,  Steve, and her extended family! She is now with her Lord and Savior.

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord’s word to her will be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:45) These words were spoken to Mary in the Bible, but they also very much describe Joyce Ellis. As the “Matriarch” of Damascus Road Ministries, Joyce and her husband Steve witnessed a small group of ‘Singles Again’ grow into a Sunday School outreach ministry, sometimes gathering in the Silverdale gymnasium due to the growing size of the Sunday School class; but the morning meetings at church were far outweighed by the mission-minded activities of the group’s Hamilton County outreach. 

In all things, Joyce was on the front line with her husband Steve as she reached out to help people in the community. Examples include: going to a psychiatric lock-up hospital during Christmas to give teddy bears donated by Silverdale Baptist Church (SBC) to children and youth who were inpatient there during the holiday season; giving new Bibles donated by Damascus Road Ministries to the homeless and visitors to SBC; donations of food, clothing, and money to countless many in the local community; visiting the sick in their homes; and coordination of untold numbers of fellowship gatherings at Joyce’s house and elsewhere.

Joyce believed that if you feed the people, they will come. She was right, and she did. But it was Joyce’s love and passion for people that blessed everything that she and Steve did for others. To meet Joyce Ellis was to be touched by the compassionate heart of God. Her legacy of love lives on in her family and among the many people that were blessed to know her.

We are humbled and honored to have served with both Joyce and Steve in Damascus Road Ministries. Joyce, you may have moved to heaven, but for those of us who remain here on earth, we will continue to sing your praises until we join you again for another great Damascus Road gathering in the sky.

Joyce was truly one of Gods angels.  I was truly blessed to have her be a part of my work team.  She was tireless in helping arrange activities, not only for our group but was always first in line to help others.  She was a pleasure to know and work with.  May you rest in peace dear friend.

A wonderful work associate and friend who's life was a shining light for Christ. I appreciate all the great memories Joyce provided our family.
