Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Keagan Mac O’Connor, insanely talented artist, off the chain musician and singer, irreverent humorist, fierce friend, treasured son, and passionate lover of life, died Monday, March 1, 2021, at age 27. Our crazy world is a better place for having known this amazing, beautiful human.
Where Keagan was, life followed. A house was not just a house – it was a home and a party. A group of strangers was not just a crowd – it was a celebration of friends meeting for the first time. We were not just his friends and family – we were his fellow travelers in life’s wonderful journey. He loved us. And we love him.
He also loved shredding, skateboarding, roller blading, and in his own words, “playing music, doing tattoos, kissing girls, and drinking milk.” As front man for the metal band Praymantha, he primal screamed, “I drink milk, ice cold milk … calcium skeleton, growing boy!”
Give him room to create, he was happy. Give him lobster, he was ecstatic. His world was replete with pleasures. Keagan attended the Center for Creative Arts High School (of course) and worked as a bad ass Tattoo Artist (of course). Every moment mattered.
He was beyond fortunate to have a mother and father who saw his talent, who gave him space to grow, who let him be Keagan, fully and joyfully. Together, they shared passion for good eats, far-flung travel, and unique spirits. Their love for him is boundless, his love for them eternal.
Keagan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lt. Col. Charles H. Miller, III; aunt and uncle, Patrick and Sue O’Connor; and his dearest dog-brother, Optimus Prime.
Those Keagan leaves to cherish his memories are mother, Alicia Miller of Chattanooga; father, Brian O’Connor of Portsmouth, NH; grandmother, Karen “Mutti” Miller of Bowie, MD; grandparents Mary and David O’Connor of East Hartford, CT; and grandmother Pat “Bubba” Miller of Lenoir City, TN. Along the path of life, he made and leaves behind friends and relatives innumerable.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 4:00 pm in the Advantage Funeral Home Franklin-Strickland Chapel. You are encouraged to “come as you are.” It’s not about us, after all. It’s about Keagan.
The service will be Livestreamed on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Hart Gallery, 110 East Main Street, Chattanooga, TN, 37408, hartgallery.org. And if you want to make a statement in his honor, write your community leaders to let them know, Keagan wants more creativity, more laughter, less judgment, and no biters (who take others work without credit). Or just make a beautiful mandala and make someone’s day – just like Keagan.
