A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Khun(94) was born in the Kandal Province of Cambodia on January 12th, 1928. He is survived by his wife Heang Seang, ten children, twenty-nine grandchildren, and an abundance of great grandchildren.
Khun was the patriarch of the family and a pillar to the local Cambodian community. He called Chattanooga, TN home for the past 37 years. After escaping the Cambodian genocide in 1979, he found his way into Thailand’s refugee camp where he was reunited with his family. Later, he was sponsored to America by a Christian church in Dayton, OH. Khun was a devout Christian and enjoyed attending church services and community events. He would often light up a room with his larger-than-life personality and welcomed everyone in with open arms. His hobbies included fishing at Nick jack Dam and hosting birthday parties and weddings at his home. His favorite phrase was “I Love You” to everyone. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memories and legacy continued to be expressed through the hearts of his loved ones.
Our family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassion and dedication to Gong’s end of life care. Gong lived a full life and passed peacefully with a full room of loved ones surrounding him.
Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday April 9, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Brainerd Chapel. A funeral service will be held promptly at 11 AM to 12:30 PM. Graveside memorial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens East in Chattanooga, TN.
