He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. Lloyd Dean Workman, age 84 of Chattanooga, Tennessee, entered heaven on Friday, September 5, 2025. He passed from this life at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia with family at his bedside.
Lloyd was born in Van, West Virginia to the late Pete and Violet Workman. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Workman, and his sisters, Dorothy Epling and Shirley Brown.
Lloyd grew up in a coal mining community with a love for baseball and hunting. He was a proud veteran, serving his country for twenty years. His service in the Army Medical Corps included Korea, Vietnam and stateside. He graduated from Tennessee Temple Theological Seminary and retired from JAT Oil. He was a deacon at Gospel Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Lloyd was a Christian who loved Jesus first and most of all. He was intentional about being a daily witness for the Kingdom. If your call to him went to voicemail, his recorded voice would tell you: “Consider this. Where will you spend eternity?” His life verses were Romans 12:1-2.
Lloyd was a family man of the highest caliber. He loved and doted on his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always there for them with words of encouragement and wisdom, along with lots of hugs and I love yous.
Lloyd was an avid outdoorsman. His adventures took him from Illinois to Colorado to Florida and Canada. He had a special fondness for the wild and wonderful mountains of West Virginia, where he returned multiple times a year. He bagged his final deer in Tennessee at the age of 83.
Lloyd had the God-given ability to fix most anything his friends brought to his garage. He could rebuild a car engine and get a lawn mower going again, to name a few. He also took the time to teach those skills to others.
In his downtime, Lloyd enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteers.
Lloyd was a jokester with the brightest of smiles. He was a friend to all, willing to help at a moment’s notice.
Lloyd is survived and cherished by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his son, Brian Workman (Melanie) of Ooltewah, Tennessee; his daughters: Teresa Wilkey (Ken) and Elizabeth Workman, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his grandchildren: Austin, Adian, Connor, Renna and Allie; his brothers: Larry Workman, Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio; Lowell Workman (Mary) of Long Island, New York; Lester Workman (Mary) of Van, West Virginia; Leonard Workman (Brenda) of Clothier, West Virginia. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will greatly miss him.
The family will be wearing camouflage attire in honor of Lloyd’s love of the great outdoors. They are inviting all guests to join in with them if they desire.

A committal service will occur Monday, September 15, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
