September 20, 1938 – September 4, 2026.
Lubertha Johanna Hermina (Beth) Krabbendam passed away on September 4, at age 87. Beloved wife of Hendrik (Henry) for 66 years. Beloved mother of Deborah, Richard and Lori, Tricia and Matt, and Gina. Beth took a special delight in her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Joe and Jaime, Jim, Richard, Owen, Elise, Thomas, Walker, Sophie, Aften and Aaron, Carson, Rosalie, and Adelaide. She is predeceased by her brother Henk and her sister Elsie, and survived by her brothers Nick and Hans and many loving nieces and nephews.
Beth was born on September 20, 1938 in Musselkanaal, the Netherlands, to Rev. Gilbert and Johanna Vandooren. She lived in occupied Holland during World War II, collecting many stories that she loved to share, before emigrating with her family to Canada in 1954. Beth married Henry in 1960 and moved with him and two children to the United States in 1964. Beth was a lifelong learner and teacher by both vocation and avocation. She earned a teaching certificate in her early 20s, a bachelor’s degree in her late 30s, and a masters in her 40s. Over the years, she taught a variety of levels and subjects before she settled in for decades as a German teacher at the Chattanooga Christian School, where she was known as “Frau” and had a lasting impact on her students.
Beth was a covenant child from a Christian home and a professing believer in Jesus Christ from a young age. She was a faithful member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church for many years, enjoyed attending ladies’ Bible studies, and was known to share her advice with young wives and mothers. Beth knew that the day would come that true faith becomes sight, and we thank God that this is an unshakable reality for her and for all believers.
She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, including her family and members of her church and community.
Visitation with the family is scheduled at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, followed by a service at 11:00 am.
The service will be live streamed at: https://vimeo.com/event/6178826/fbad80b3c1
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Chattanooga Christian School, Covenant College, or Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
