

Mark Sitton Ray was born on June 28th, 1947 to Jewel and Marie Ray. Born and raised in Calhoun, Georgia, Mark graduated from Calhoun High School in 1965. After graduating, Mark decided to join the United States Air Force. After several years of service to our country, he was honorably discharged in August 1970. Afterwards, Mark went on to get his degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern Polytechnic Institute, where he was a charter member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduating, Mark moved to Chattanooga to begin his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority, which he retired from after more than 30 years of service.
Mark and Karen were founding members of the Chattanooga Lookouts Booster Club. Mark was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #484 and the Sonora Masonic Lodge.
Mark was extremely involved within the community. When he wasn’t helping others, you could find him cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, or The Alabama Crimson Tide. Mark was a family man and enjoyed following sports that supported his family members.
In addition to his wife, Karen Sue Ray, Mark is proceeded in death by his step-children, Patrick Keith, Dana Willams, Kyle Williams, his loving parents, Jewel and Marie Ray and his younger brother Dan Ray. He is survived by Bryan Veneable (step son in law) Sister Ellen (Wayne) Chappuis; nephews - David Ray, Drew (Kelly) Chappuis, Ben (Lauren) Chappuis.
To honor his service to our Country, a Funeral Service will be held at Tennessee National Cemetery.
