Nancy R. Chambers

Born on August 5, 1934, in North Chattanooga, TN, she attended G Russell Brown, Northside Junior High and Hixson High School where she excelled in Chorus.  Nancy lived in Hixson Tn for 11 years , in 1962 she moved to a new home in Ringgold , Ga, where she built a life marked by steady devotion, enduring faith, and a quiet ability to encourage others by the way she lived. She was a member of Catoosa Co home demonstration club for many years working beside her husband, GL , on the farm she loved and called WindSwept.

Nancy worked at Walmart as a retail associate, bringing reliability and care to her work and to the people she encountered each day. Nancy’s faith in Jesus was a guiding foundation throughout her life. She was a member of Boynton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, served as a leader for Vacation Bible School and offered her beautiful voice to the Choir.  One of many accomplishments in God’s work, Nancy and GL were called to organize and build a new church, commissioned by Ringgold First Baptist, Briarwood Baptist which opened its doors to the community in 1995.

She found joy in tending her garden, in singing, and especially in spending time with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  She hosted many gatherings at her beautiful home for holidays, birthdays , weddings and anniversaries for friends and family. Nancy’s warmth, made others feel welcome, offering kindness that was simple, sincere, and lasting.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Esta Reno; her loving husband of 68 years, G.L. Chambers; and her sister, Neva Casey.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Jerry) Payne; sons, Randall and Richard Chambers, Reece (Amy) Chambers; grandchildren, Shannon (Kevin) McElhaney and Dewayne Payne; great-grandchildren, Tori McElhaney, Katherine Grace (Jackson) Moore, and Charlsie McElhaney;  brothers, Bill “Butch” (Mona) Reno and Ernie Reno.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Friday, October, 30, 2026 at Boynton Baptist Church, 4093 Boynton Drive, Ringgold, GA 30736. A celebration of life for Nancy will follow in the church at 11:30 AM with Rev. James Hutto. A private burial will take place at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
