HOWARD OWEN HOLBROOK, age 87, passed away in October of 2026, at his home in Chattanooga. He was born in 1939 at Emory University in Georgia.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mae Holbrook, as well as his son-in-law, Rex Helton.
Owen is survived by the love of his life for 64 years, Wanda as well as their children, Laura Helton, Paul Holbrook (Helen) and Donna Plisich (John). They have three grandchildren, Owen Holbrook, Haley Helton Foley (Ryan) and Briana Holbrook.
He was a graduate of Chamblee High School in Chamblee, Georgia and received his associate’s degree from Southern Polytechnic State University. He also received his Bachelor of Science, along with a master’s degree from Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee.
Owen served a tour in the United States Army. He was then employed by Sprint Telecommunications, Inc. for 34 years where he served in various engineering and management capacities in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia until his retirement in 2001.
He was a life-long member of Southern Baptist Churches; an avid hiker having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. He also enjoyed swimming, music, and family activities.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Wednesday, October 14th in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of life to follow in the chapel at 12 PM. Burial will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery following the service.
