Reverend Dennis Thompson

Celebration of Life service will be held at Ooltewah Baptist Church on Saturday,August 8th at 12 noon with Pastor Jeremy Colloms officiating.

The family will receive friends at 11am on Saturday, August 8th.

Dennis was born in Concord, North Carolina to Vaudry and Misher Thompson on May 17, 1954. He graduated from John Bartram High, Philadelphia PA in 1972. He was ordained as a preacher in 1975. He married Donna Thompson in 1977. They were blessed with two sons, two daughters, and seven grandsons. Dennis was a wonderful Pastor and Bible teacher. He loved to teach and preach the word of God. Missions and Evangelism were big on his heart and he did everything from preaching on street corners in Philadelphia to standing before many preaching the word of God. He went on to receive Biblical training at Manna Bible Institute (Philadelphia) at which he later became an instructor. He worked in several fields including work with the Philadelphia Bulletin newspaper, Universal radio station, client care worker with mentally disabled adults in group homes, hospitals and centers, prison security guard and retired from Southern Champion tray (Chattanooga).

He also served as Assistant Pastor at Glory Baptist Church (Philadelphia), Pastored, Christ Faith Christian Community Church (Bristol, PA) and Pastored, SPOLIWA Church (Chattanooga TN). He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling jokes, playing games, sports especially the Philadelphia Eagles, and of course studying and teaching the Bible. Most recently, he was an active member at First Baptist Concord (Knoxville TN) and then Ooltewah Baptist Church in TN where he continued to teach the word of God. He was involved in and supported many outreach ministries throughout his life.

Dennis was preceded in death by his son Dennis Thompson Jr, his parents, Misher and Vaudry Thompson, two sisters: Ernestine Thompson and Irene Shockley, five brothers: Mose Cherry, Ellis Thompson, Alphonso Thompson, Vaudry Thompson Jr and his twin brother Donald Thompson.

He leaves behind to be reunited again in heaven: Wife: Donna Thompson, sisters: Cherry Price and Claudia Tobin, brother: Nathaniel Thompson, Son: David Thompson, Daughters: Dionne Denean (Josh), Dawn Thompson, Diana Thompson (Alex), Grandson: Avery, Lawson, Levi, Luke, Judah, Josiah, Jacob, Jeremiah, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends (who were like family to him).

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for all the support you have given us especially over the past two years when our loved one fell ill. Thanks for all the prayers, words of encouragement, financial support and your love. May God richly bless you.
