

Ruby graduated from Howard High School where she was head majorette, then went on to graduate from MTSU where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Later in life, Ruby joined the Order of Eastern Star. During her college years, she contributed to the civil rights movement alongside her fellow classmates on sit-ins and boycotts. Ruby worked for Cutters Laboratory up until they relocated out of the city. She then worked her tenure at UTC until retirement.
Ruby is preceded in death by mother Carrie Mae Tillman, husbands Thomas Watkins and Maurice Calhoun, brothers Roland “Sonny”, Jesse, and Harold Bridges; sisters Winifred “Winnie” Dozier, Juanita Taylor, Gussie Mae Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son Derrick Watkins of Chattanooga, a sister Emma Clark of California, 3 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Lie –in-State will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 3pm -6pm at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Franklin-Strickland Chapel.
Burial will be private.
