

Wylie W. Gross Jr., age 88, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 18, 2016. He was the son of the late Wylie and Willa Gross, Sr. Wylie graduated from Baylor School in 1945 and he attended Georgia Tech, Mercer University and Southwestern Seminary. He was a veteran, having served as a Colonel in the Air National Guard where he served 31 years. He also served with the United States Navy during World War II. Professionally, Wylie served over 40 years in the commercial and industrial construction industry as an electrical engineer and he retired from Campbell and Associates. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association and served as an investigator and expert witness in construction disputes. Wylie has been a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church since 1955 where he has served as the teacher and founder of the Friendship Sunday School Class, Past Chairman of the Deacons, Trustee, Sunday School Director, Church Training Director, President of Men’s Brotherhood, Baptist Men and Building Committee Chairman. Wylie was also the founder of the Prayer Room at Ridgedale Baptist Church. He was a charter member and former board member of Volunteers in Medicine and he served as Chairman of the Board from 2005 to 2006.
Preceded in death by son, Wylie W. Gross III, “Chuck”.
Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Louise Gross; two daughters, Cathy Robbs Baker(Larry) and Lori Kelley(Mark) both of Chattanooga; special niece, Joan Brower Waber (Nick); six grandchildren, Tyler(Amber) Gross and Krista(Adam) Rich, Josh(Meredith) and Jordan(Kristen) Robbs, Chase and Kaiti Kelley; four great grandchildren, Stella and Will Robbs, Wyatt Gross, Elijah Robbs; several nieces and nephews; brother, Jack Gross of Chattanooga and sister, Annagene Hooker of Chattanooga.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 4:30 PM at Ridgedale Baptist Church with Dr. Doug Plumlee and Dr. Ray Lloyd officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Ridgedale Baptist Church from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class, former and active deacons of Ridgedale Baptist Church and board members of Volunteers in Medicine. Family and friends will gather at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 for graveside services with full military honors.
