

He was born in Randolph, Vermont on April 13, 1935, son of Charles P. and Johanna (Grega) Nason, and attended schools in Chester. He attended the Vermont Academy in Saxtons River and was a graduate of Norwich University and then received a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania at Scranton. He also attended the prestigious Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Charles was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army from Norwich University in 1961.
Mr. Nason’s military career spanned 26 years during which time he did two combat tours in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Service Medal, one Silver Star for gallantry, three Bronze Stars for valor, and two Purple Hearts. Later in his career, Charles was the commanding officer for the Northeast Recruiting Command in Concord, NH. He subsequently retired to Vermont as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983, where he pursued his true passion of breeding Morgan Horses at Old Fairgrounds Farm in Chester.
An accomplished athlete, Charles excelled in basketball and baseball at Chester High School and Norwich University. One of his fondest memories was winning a Vermont State High School Basketball Championship with his brother, Michael in 1953. He still holds the Chester High School basketball scoring record with 45 points in a single game.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Richardson) Nason; two sons, Charles P. Nason, III and his wife Kelly of Boxford, MA; and Steven Nason of Wilmington, MA; three daughters, Donna O’Neil and her husband Patrick of Brownsville, VT; Debra DiBenedetto and her husband James of Topsfield, MA; and Christa Lucier and her husband Scott of Attleboro, MA; his former wife, Priscilla (Blaisdell) Nason of Derry, NH; two sisters, Joanne Youngs of Concord, NC and Nancy Miles and her husband Dennis of Northfield, VT; grandchildren Derek Miles, Jacqueline, Katharine, Kristina, Danielle and James DiBenedetto, Jr., Chelsea, Alexandra and Charles Nason, and Justin and Allison Lucier; six nieces: Johanna Jones, Kelly Martin, Kimberly Miner, Jacqueline Langlois, Jo-Alyce Clark and Janna Fleury; and three nephews: Michael Nason, Jason Miles and Matthew Miles. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Andrew Nason who died in 1986.
At Mr. Nason’s request, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Chester Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 913, Chester, VT 05143.
