

Adelbert (Del) P. Gorris, age 87, of Troy, passed away on Sunday, September 28th, 2025 at his home. He was born on November 11th, 1937 in Cleveland. Del lived in Cleveland prior to moving to Burton where he raised his family in 1971 and spent the last eighteen years in Troy. Del was a 1956 graduate of Holy Name High School, a veteran of the US Army National Guard, but most importantly, he was a son, brother, friend, husband, dad, coach, usher, grandfather, great-grandfather and neighbor.
He cherished his time with his children and grandchildren but was happiest when with his wife, Joanne. She was the love of his life, his companion and partner in all things that made life joyful.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating, supporting the Guardians, watching his children and grandchildren participate in all activities, traveling the United States in his RV and spending time with his friends, especially the “Over the Hill Gang”. Del was a devoted Roman Catholic and active member within the St. Helen Chuch community.
Del retired from Ameritech (formerly Ohio Bell Telephone Company) in 1992, where he worked for 36 years. Upon his retirement he worked at the Burton Carpet Shoppe for almost 27 years.
Del will be remembered for his detailed and energetic stories, generosity, sense of humor, compassion and wisdom. He will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate to know him.
He is survived by his children Eileen (Todd) Harford, Karen (Andrew) Hicock, Wendi (David) Sturm, Nicholas (Melissa) Gorris; grandchildren Alyssa (Eric) Levicky, Ryan (Natalie) Harford, Robert (Taylor) Hicock, Danielle Hicock, Nicholas Hicock, Joseph and Jack Sturm; great grandchildren Mara Rose and Joseph Levicky, Andrew Hicock; and Brother-in-law Richard Sarkissian. He is preceded in death by his wife Joanne (Nee Jedlinsky), parents Ilona (Nellie) and Henry Gorris, Siblings Harry (Beverly) Gorris; Ann (Richard) Charron; Jane Sarkissian.
Family and friends may call at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland on Thursday 4 – 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am, Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury (Please meet at Church). Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
