Barbara Strauss

BARBARA C. STRAUSS (nee Cooper), age 92, of Newbury. Beloved wife of the late Morton P. Strauss and Daniel J. Corbett; loving step-mother of Karen (Charles) Wolff and Beedee (Marvin) Soskin; devoted step-grandmother of Stephanie (George) DiPaolo, Michael (Taya) Levin, Bridgette, Kevin (Audrey), and Katie Soskin, and step-great-grandmother of six; dear sister of Ruthanne (David) Love; and cherished aunt of many. Barbara earned a BA degree from the College of Wooster, graduating in June 1946, and earned a MN degree from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, graduating in March 1948. She was later employed for 38 years by University Hospitals of Cleveland, working as a Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, Supervisor of Medical Surgical Nursing, and Nurse Recruiter and Staff Assistant with Nursing Resources Development. Barbara was an avid supporter of The Cleveland Symphony for 40 years, including being a member of the Women’s Committee for 15 years. She became a member of the Cleveland Ski Club and the Erie Shore Ski Club, and skied with her husband Mort Strauss in the U.S. Western States, Canada, and in Europe. They also traveled widely in the U.S. and Europe, attending over 20 Elderhostels. Barbara enjoyed following Figure Skating activities and attended two U.S. National Competitions. She also enjoyed long bicycling trips with her husband Mort and other friends. Barbara was a member of the Cleveland Audubon Society, the Holden Arboretum, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and also served on reunion planning committees of the Alumni of The College of Wooster. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 am, Friday, April 7, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, OH 44065. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to Mass. Private Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to St. Helen Catholic Church Building Fund (address above) or The College of Wooster, Gault Alumni Center, Wooster, OH 44691-2363.
