

Charles Peters, 81, of Russell Township, passed away May 31, 2010, at The Cleveland Clinic. Born July 1, 1928, in Cleveland, he had lived in Russell Township for the past 42 years. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran and was an active member of Saint Anselm Church as a Eucharistic Minister, adult server and as a member of the Young of Heart. Charles was a craftsman woodworker, making grandfather clocks, curio cabinets, entertainment cabinets and a number of other creative items. He enjoyed gardening, working with his computer, and completing Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Charles also enjoyed restoring damaged automobiles in his free time. Mr. Peters worked as a certified auto mechanic at Zalud Oldsmobile in Shaker Heights, retiring in 1988. Survivors are his wife, Rita (nee Fleckenstein); son, Michael (Peggy); daughters, Mary Ann (Tim) Healy and Pegy (Doug) McSwain; grandchildren, Kelly Major, Tim (Stacey) Healy Sr. Sandra Maria Peters, Lisa (fiance, Justin) Peters, and Caitlin and Alyssa McSwain; and great-grandchildren, Darcie, Makenzie, and Kaysie Healy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elizabeth Eppich. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Church of Saint Anselm, 12969 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. The Rev. Thomas Sweany will officiate. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles' name may be made to a charity of your choice.
