Elvira Schermaier (nee Baender), age 86, passed away peacefully January 18, 2024. Born March 17, 1937 in Romania, she grew up in Austria, moving to the United States in 1956. She was a West side Cleveland resident before moving to Chester Township 33 years ago. Elvira worked as a Dental Assistant and Technician, and later assisted her husband Alfons with his Dental Lab business. She was a parishioner of the Church of Saint Anselm in Chester Twp. and along with her family also supported St. Stephen Catholic Church on the West side of Cleveland. She also was a founding and long-time member of the Gottscheer Heimatchor and of the STV Bavaria Singers. Having a very inquisitive mind Elvira loved to read, and also enjoyed camping with her family. Most importantly she strived to be the epitome of a mother. Elvira absolutely adored caring for and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was everything to her. Elvira was well known for being unconditionally loving, very gentle and kind, and very honest and humble. She is survived by her husband Alfons; children Alfons J. (Heidi), Agnes (Francis) Hoven, Gerhard (Deborah), and Anton (Deborah); grandchildren Jonathon (Rachael), Andreas (Michelle), Noel, Elena, Daniel, and Adriana; great-grandson Oliver; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Hedwig (Elmer); and parents Nikolaus and Dorothea Baender. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am, Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Church of Saint Anselm, 12969 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
