Eugene E. Swanson

Eugene E. Swanson, age 93, passed away peacefully December 9, 2023. Born July 30, 1930 in Titusville, PA, he had lived in Mentor before most recently living in Thompson. Gene worked as a Parts Manager for Caterpillar in Mentor, retiring in 1985. During his teenage years Gene’s brothers passed away unexpectedly while serving in WWII. In keeping a promise to his brother, Gene took on the care of his brother’s homing pigeons for over 75 years. At one time Gene and his son were ranked number two in the country for a father and son operated homing pigeon loft. He is survived by his sons Eugene A. (Elise), Christopher S. (Jennifer), and Jason K.; grandchildren Joseph, Gene, Shayla, Keara, Ruby Rose, Owen, and Zoe; and two great-grandchildren. Gene is preceded in death by his wife Ruby (nee Shannon); brothers Calvin M. and Ralph E.; and sister Dorothy M. (William) Armstrong. Private family services will be held.
