EVELYN EMMA CAMPUS, 89, of Euclid and Rocky River (4/18/33-6/7/2022). Precious daughter of Michael and Mary (Nierodzik) DiCorpo (deceased), adored wife for 49 years of Philip (deceased), loving mother of Cynthia, Philip and Robert (Sharon) Campus. Adoring Nana of Evan (Kaitlin) Campus and Elisabeth (Josh) Turza; affectionate great grandmother of John; cherished sister of Michael (Maria) and Dorey DiCorpo; dear aunt of Michael (Carrie), Anthony, and Vincent (Nichole) DiCorpo. Loving great aunt of Jordan, Cenzo and Nico DiCorpo.
It was truly said by Evelyn’s devoted husband, Phil, that Evelyn (Evie) was loved by all who knew her. Evie met Phil, the love of her life, on the dance floor of the Aragon Ballroom. With her hourglass figure, beautiful smile, sweet, lilting voice, maternal caring, artistic talent and stellar cooking and baking skills, Evie was a force of domestic nature. She created a warm, welcoming and charming home full of family. Her hospitality and generosity were legendary and her affection unfurled from family to extended family to friends, neighbors and clerks at the grocery store. Hers was a positive and supportive vision of others. “I only see perfect people”, said she.
Evie loved to dance with Phil and everything she did was suffused with beauty. Remarkably lovely handwriting, the hand painted garage door and holiday windows, sparkling Christmas gifts and decor wrapped with huge bows and hand glued Swarovski crystals. Delicious dinners and custom birthday cakes; Thomas the Tank Engine! Ice Skating! A Christmas tree that took weeks to decorate, then was honored to stand tall until Superbowl Sunday.
In later years, there were frequent family get-togethers, weekly movie matinee dates and dinners out with her loved little sister, Dorey, and best friend, Joyce. A favorite thing to do was to pick up a fast food sandwich and sit alone, peacefully gazing at Lake Erie at Lakefront Lodge park in Willowick.
Recent years found Evie living safely in Rocky River, together with her sister, Dorey, at home in the loving care of family.
Our sadness and grief at her loss is deep, but it is tempered by knowing that Evie and Phil are together again, their arms around each other, dancing into eternity.
Today, in honor of our Evie, send someone a pretty greeting card with a heartfelt message. Bake or cook a delicious dish and serve it with love. Create or craft something beautiful. Look forward to special days with loving anticipation and go out of your way to make others happy.
The family thanks Griswold Home Care, Cleveland Clinic Care at Home, Holy Family Hospice and the wonderful caregivers who helped us ensure that Evie continued to enjoy the best possible quality of life at home.
Services were handled by Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home and were private. Interment at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
