

Frederick Richard Schroeder, age 84 of Russell Township "Novelty", passed away on Jan. 11, 2016 while surrounded by his family. Fred or Dick is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne (nee Ashton) of 60 years. He was a devoted father to sons, Fred "Dickie" (deceased), Wesley "Scott", Michael, and Dale (Janis) Schroeder. A loving grandfather "Pop Pop" to Scotty (deceased), Owen (Shauna), Jenna, Mallory and Stephanie. Cherished brother of Nancy Cappadona (deceased) and a loving brother-in-law and uncle. Fred was the son of Fred Charles and Helen B. Schroeder (both deceased). Fred was born in Cleveland in 1931 and was an active resident of Novelty and Geauga County since 1937. He graduated from Russell High School in 1950. Fred was a medaled Korean War Veteran who always flew the flag and was 100% American made. He retired as Quality Control Manager from the TRW Valve Division after 38 years. Fred spent the past 27 years actively restoring and showing off his "had to be red" antique International Harvester/Farmall tractors and his Standard Gauge Lionel Trains. He was a proud member of the Historical Engine Society, Train Collectors Association, VFW 663 and Military Order of the Purple Heart Veterans. Fred was a friend to so many and will be greatly missed by all, including his loving cats. Visitation Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. with funeral services at 5 p.m. at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Rd. Chester Twp. Interment at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Russell Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fred's name may be made to Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary, P.O. Box 581, Chesterland, Ohio 44026.
