Joan Elaine Osborn Cloonan of Kirtland, Ohio, age 93, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on July 2nd, 2024 surrounded by her family. Joan was Mother to seven children, Diane (Tom Warha), Gary (Nancy), Randy (Heidi), Kelly (Kevin Riley), Tim (Sue), Michael, and Patrick (Carla). She was Grandmother to 26 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Clifford Osborne. She is predeceased by her loving husband, William Patrick Cloonan. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended John Adams High School where she was crowned football homecoming queen in 1948. Her grace and beauty remained evident throughout her 93 years. She lived at her current residence for 61 years, where she and her husband raised their family, restored a home, and built a legacy of love on their land.
She welcomed others with open arms and was a peaceful presence. Others found her home as a sweet sanctuary, whether for game nights, holiday gatherings, or family reunions. Fresh cut flowers adorned her table and always brought joy to her heart. She was the biggest cheerleader and fan for her children and grandchildren, whether for sporting events, career achievements, or life in general. She enjoyed playing the accordion and piano. She participated in a bowling league and actively enjoyed tennis into her 80’s. She frequently went antiquing with family and friends as she continued to restore her century home. Joan and Bill traveled far and wide to intentionally visit family members, whether it was the birth of a grandchild, visiting friends, or out-of-state relatives. In addition, they traveled to Alaska, Caribbean, Hawaii, Egypt, and Ireland to name a few.
Joan was always very intentional about carving out time for family vacations, reunions, and holiday celebrations to create memories and build lasting relationships. She always said her favorite child was the one she was talking to or visiting with, in the present moment. When ending your visit with her and saying, “I love you Grams”, her response was consistently, “I love you more!”
Visitation will be held at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, located at 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, Ohio 44026, on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 11am until 1pm. Celebration of Life will immediately follow visitation at 1pm also at the funeral home. Joan will be laid to rest following the services at Kirtland South Cemetery.
