Joe E. Bright of Gates Mills, Ohio (Chester Twp) peacefully entered eternal rest on the sun-filled morning of March 4, 2020 at his home and in the company of his beloved wife, Dolores. The first son of Wilbur Woodrow Bright and Ruth D. (McCormick), he was born in Seaman, Ohio in 1933. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores; 4 children, Kelly (Doug), Kim, Joe and April; grandsons Max, Brock, Grayson and Dylan; granddaughters Christina, Hannah and Isabel; his sister Toby Zahler (Tom), many nieces, a nephew and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Frank.
Joe was in construction, 35+ years with C.C.C. He was an immensely proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the Korean War. He was a lifetime member and past commander of VFW Post 1082 in Bedford. He led and supported charitable endeavors and community functions. Joe's outgoing nature, commitment to helping others and zest for life was evidenced by his numerous charitable projects, community awards, his adventurous hobbies of sailing, scuba and world travel.
Joe was an avid reader and decades-long supporter of the Cleveland Playhouse. Joe was a friend to many, and all are invited for visitation from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday March 8, 2020 at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Rd. (Route 306 N. of Mayfield Rd.) Chesterland, Ohio. A Christian service and color guard ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Bedford Rotary Foundation or charity of your choice.
