

John Varga, Sr. of Munson Township, Ohio, age 87, died on Monday, August 3, 2026. He was born on March 26, 1939, in Novajidrany, Hungary, the son of Zsuzsanna (Buczko) and John Varga. John came to the United States along with his brother in 1956. Spending time at the Hungarian Social Club in Cleveland led to meeting his wife, Frances Schubert, and their marriage in 1959. Moving to Munson in 1970, John owned and operated Munson Valley Landscaping, adding the Nursery, and working with his three sons by his side. He built a pond on his property, becoming his pride and joy. Many of his grandchildren spent their summers at his home enjoying the company and the pond.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of fifty-five years, Frances Varga; two brothers, Zoltan and Andy Varga, and a great-granddaughter, Lucia Annamarie Varga.
Survivors include his three sons, John J. (Polly) Varga of Burton, Ohio, William Z. Varga, and Emery F. (Annemarie, deceased) Varga of Munson; his sister, Eva Varga Ulibarri of Arizona; six grandchildren, Wendi (Craig), John (Sarah), Peter (Rachel), Frank (Kayleigh), Domenick (Hannah), and Isabella (Harrison); ten great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Maple Hill Cemetery on the corner of Auburn and Butternut Roads in Munson Township. A small gathering of friends and family will happen immediately after the service at the Rookery Lodge at 10110 Cedar Road in Munson.
