Juliann Marie Mancino (nee Locuoco). Beloved wife and life partner for 51 years to the late James (Jim); is survived by her only son, Patrick (Lucinda/wife); two grandchildren; Emmy Lucia and Henry James of Kensington, MD. A daughter and first-generation Italian-American, Juliann was born in Cleveland to Albert and Adelaide Locuoco. A lifelong caretaker to her mother, Adelaide; grandmother Vincenzina; and her uncle Michael DeRose. Her nurturing and caring continued as her husband Jim battled lewy body dementia and passed under her watch in 2016. After Jim’s passing, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and moved to Montefiore of Menorah Park where she remained until her passing. A lifelong resident of Cleveland and Shaker Heights, Juliann attended Harvey Rice Elementary School in Cleveland’s Buckeye neighborhood, Beaumont School for Girls, and went on to earn her undergraduate degree at Western Reserve University and three subsequent Master’s Degrees. She was a woman of devotion to the Almighty, and prayed morning and night for her family, friends, and others. As a French teacher in both Beachwood and Shaker Heights, she developed a French language program for elementary school students at Hilltop Elementary School in Beachwood, Ohio where she taught part/full time for 40 years. She was a devoted mother and spirit of her family, community, and church. She will always be remembered for her Sunday Italian dinners, weekly tennis games, French tutoring, writing, and as a “feisty” mediator wanting to make sure everyone was always happy. In her spare time, she was an avid Francophile and spent her time with a local French area studies organization, the French Connection, that she cofounded with many others; volunteered at the Little Sister’s of the Poor nursing home; served on the board of the Child Guidance Center; and invited anyone who entered her house to enjoy Italian food and delicacies. A memorial mass will be held on Friday January 27, 2023 10am at Gesu Church, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights Ohio 44118. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Church of the Gesu.
