Karen Josephine Meikle, (nee Laughman), born March 26, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on April 7, 2026. The loving wife of William "Bill" H. Meikle Jr., devoted mother of David W. Meikle and Heather L. Meikle; and cherished grandmom to her grandpuppies, Willow and Ezekial and grandkittie, James.
The daughter of Gertrude Josephine Laughman (nee Mechtensimer) and Earl Samual Laughman, Karen grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and was a 1966 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School. Following graduation, she began her career at Allstate Insurance Company in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Karen continued with Allstate for 48 years, retiring in 2014 as a manager of the Risk Management Business Center in Hudson, Ohio. Throughout her tenure, Karen built the strongest network of lifelong friends.
Karen and Bill married on August 1, 1970. They found their family home in Chesterland, Ohio, in 1976. While working full-time, Karen was a dedicated mother, spending countless hours headed to Cub Scouts and Little League with David or Girl Scouts and the barn for horseback riding with Heather.
Karen inherited her love of gardening from her parents. She loved nothing more than Spring season to come to start weeding and planting fresh flowers and vegetables. Her beauty shone with a smile from ear to ear from her stunning landscape. She loved sitting on the front porch with a glass of her homemade iced tea reading her favorite crime novels. Karen also had a passion for muscle cars from the 1960s, be it her ’67 Corvette from her early years or the ’66 Mustang from the 2000s. Street racing was the game for the Vette. Car shows were the ticket for the Mustang, with a 2nd place trophy at the Cleveland Auto-Rama. Karen enjoyed vacations to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and weekend camping trips with her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ohman Family Living - Briar Hill Skilled Senior Living facility in Middlefield, Ohio, on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM. A second Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Karen’s final resting place will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center or The Geauga County Dog Warden/Shelter. We invite you to share a fond memory or condolences at www.gattozziandson.com
