Born on September 25, 1937 in Eau Claire, WI to Carl Hallberg and Klarice (Hugdahl) Hallberg, he was the eldest of 3 children. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1943 and then to Bay Village, Ohio in 1945 where Marvin graduated from Bay Village High School in 1956. He attended Ohio State University earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1962 and a Master of Science degree from Cleveland State University in 1964. In 1958, he married Virginia Postovar, also from Bay Village. He worked for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals in Indiana and later for Ohio State University in Columbus, St. Lukes Hospital in Cleveland, Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH. Marvin was actively involved with music for his whole life, teaching himself how to play the banjo and singing in church and Sons of Norway choirs. He was an avid cyclist, riding long miles in eastern Ohio until a stroke curtailed his activities in 1995.
Surviving him are his children Christina Smayda of OH, Lisa Scholten (William) of SD, Gretchen Harbin (Rick) of CO, his former wife Virginia, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his sister, Judith Hallberg (VT) and brother, James Hallberg (CO). He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathryn Pollio and granddaughter Jessica Smayda. Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
