With a name like Dick Schlueter, our lives were forced to together in any class we shared in high school. Since we both loved blowing up stuff, that explosive bond helped form our friendship. To put it simply, we were lucky to survive our wacky experiments. At one point we considered making nitroglycerine. We had the formula (without the use of the internet, by the way), we had the glass flasks and Bunsen burner, we had the technique. We knew that mixing the key chemicals could cause a premature, but ridiculous explosion. We tried, unsuccessfully, to volunteer some almost friends to do the mixing. We thought about mixing remotely, using long strings. Thankfully, we came to our senses and dropped the idea for explosive fly paper. Effective, but messy.
 I experience many firsts with Dick. He broke the 100 mph barrier, with me riding shotgun. You should have seen Bullitt, the movie; all the airborne car stunts with the sparks. It should be know that when you are inside the car, you cannot see the sparks.
And before man-scaping was popular, by simply hanging your arm out the window of his modified exhaust system Ford, a simple backfire could remove all the hair on that exposed arm. The sound was so loud that I didn't notice the flames wrapped around by skinny arm. 
 We had rocks fights, slingshot wars, mixed chemicals to create poisonous gasses (mixing sulphuric acid and sugar is really cool), and created a way-too-powerful golf ball cannon. We did, however, stop mixing chemicals in his house after creating chlorine gas. The green color is vivid.
 There was an interesting synergy when we were together. I will remember my times with him fondly. He will be missed. Sincerely, Richard Schlueter

Dear Joyce and family,
