Shirley A. Shoda

Cherished mother of Lynn A. Shoda (Anthony Messina), grandmother (“Nonna”) of Ashley A. Messina and Abbey L. Messina (Geordi Kogovsek), sister of Joseph Habaly (in PIttsburgh), dear aunt and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her parents (Joseph and Ida Mae (nee Marcolini) Habaly and eldest daughter, Charis Renee Shoda.

Born in Avella, PA, Shirley came to Cleveland, OH after graduating from Centerville High School and Penn Commercial. She worked for GE and Johnson Controls, earned an Associates Degree, and eventually found her penchant for data, records, systems, and people in the registrar’s office at CWRU. As Assistant Registrar, Shirley enjoyed the campus environment and interaction with students for 20 years. Shirley’s kind-hearted nature, steadfastness, affinity for learning, and endearing sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Shirley was a regular supporter of WomenSafe and the Salvation Army. A private burial in January at All Souls Cemetery is planned, with a private memorial service planned for her birthday (February 5th). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to an individual’s preferred charity.
