A proud graduate of Garfield Heights High School, Stanley was a talented athlete, who took titles in wrestling and weightlifting. He also served in the Army National Guard.
Anyone who knew Stanley would say he was “one of a kind” and the very definition of hard working. Often dressed in his signature powder blue attire, he could be found tending to his yard or overseeing his work with an unmatched sense of pride.
A lifelong ethical vegetarian and devoted animal lover, Stanley’s heart was never far from the creatures he cared for. Rescuing and nurturing animals was one of his greatest passions, and his home was filled with the company of many animals ranging from common household pets, farm animals and a pride of peacocks.
Stanley was a familiar face throughout town, known for visiting many local venues, especially Guido’s Pizza Haven, where he enjoyed his favorite meal and warm conversations with friends.
A gifted and tireless entrepreneur, Stanley founded Blue Velvet Sod and later American Railroad Tie and Stone Company, where he worked for 56 years until his passing. His business ventures allowed him to beautify many homes in Northeast Ohio with his statuary, fountains and landscaping. He poured his heart and soul into his business, building not only a livelihood but also a reputation for integrity and hard work.
Stanley is survived by his children Laura Perko Ward, Matt Perko, Dan Perko, Lisa Bordner, Chad Perko and Stan Perko, along with many grandchildren; sister Carol Ann Whipkey; brother Ed Perko; and many nieces and nephews who loved and adored him.
He is preceded in death by his father Stanley Perko, and mother Bessie Perko.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
