Walter Louis Baker Jr.

December 5, 1933May 31, 2021

WALTER L. BAKER Jr., age 87, of Chester Township. Beloved husband of the late Shirley A. Baker, loving father of Beth Anne (Joseph) Foell and Sue (Rev. David) Milligan, devoted grandfather of twelve, and great grandfather of two. Walter was a member of Cornerstone Community Church and former member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Walter’s whole life reflected the faith he placed in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He lived with integrity and intentionally encouraged others in their walk with Christ.

Walter was a dedicated board member of The City Mission, Cleveland OH and an integral part of the development of their facilities. He was actively involved in his local church and in the schools his daughters attended. He built his own architectural firm that designed buildings throughout the city and for mission organizations overseas. Walt used his talents to further projects for family and friends, helped almost all his grandchildren get their first cars and enjoyed traveling many scenic routes in his vintage Lincoln.

To Walt’s family and close friends I am very sad to hear of his passing. I am also sorry that I didn’t reach out to him in the last few years. He and I started as a business relationship that turned into a friendship. We built / remodeled several buildings together. Planning commissioners always had the highest praise for the detail of his work and I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for his professionalism, his high morals and his faith. He lived his faith by example. I was privileged to have worked with him and to have known him. He made a difference to so many. He certainly made a difference in my life. ……. RIP Walt.

Beth Anne and Sue, It was so sad to hear today of your dad's passing, but I rejoice with you that he is with the Lord and his beloved wife. I have such fond memories of living in the apartment for three years before I got married. That was my first place on my own, and I was so grateful to know that your parents were right around the corner if I needed anything. Your dad even went with me when I bought my first car! They were both such wonderful people who demonstrated God's love. Love to you both and your families.

Your folks were such a beacon of encouragement and blessing to us. They were such an integral part of the ministry of The City Mission.
We were saddened to hear of your dads homegoing but we have that blessed hope that he is rejoicing in Heaven. Harry and Barbara Banfield

Beth Anne and Sue,
How grateful I am to have been part of the extended family of your parents, and what a mark they have made in my life. You have a blessed heritage! I recall lively conversations, good laughs, serious heart to hearts, and always open arms. I will always have memories of the family watching a program on the television, and hearing your dad "Hmmm...HMMMM", which was the signal to change the channel to a more appropriate program for family viewing. May God provide His arms of comfort to you and your families - until we all meet again in eternity!

It is with great love that I write this message to Beth Anne & Sue and their husbands.
When Paul & I arrived in Cleveland to candidate at Cedar Hill Baptist Church your parents lovingly took us under their wing from that day forward. I’ll never forget how they cared for us during that visit and even crafted a dresser drawer to be a safe bed for our 2 week old baby Jenny. There were many dinners and socials and happy times at the Baker’s home over the years. Shirley with her sweet smile and Walt with his wisdom and wit made for a special time whenever we were together.
This recent Homegoing of Walt brings another tug to my heart as I also remember the tender care of communication they rendered to me when Paul was taken Home years ago.
Paul, Shirley, Walt....enjoy Jesus!
“When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus we’ll sing and shout the victory!” Amen.

Sending my condolences to the family in the loss of your father. He was board president of The City Mission when I began working here and I always respected his commitment to the work of the Lord. I loved both your mom and your dad and share in you sadness.

Harry and I were so very grateful for Walt's undying loyalty and support of us as ones sent out by his church. We just this week came across a book that he had sent to encourage us, carefully writing uplifting words and mailing it all the way to the African bush. He was indeed a man of intentionality and integrity and great love in action. Our prayers are with you, BethAnn and Susan, as you grieve your separation from him.

Praying for peace that only our Lord and God can deliver to your families. I’m out of town and won’t be able to attend in person but will be praying.
