

William J. Skomrock, Sr., 85, lifelong resident of Newbury, passed away at home surrounded by family on March 15, 2014. He was born Aug. 3, 1928. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Fife); children, William Jr. (Susan) of Newbury, Lynn (Joseph) Roche of Brecksville and Jeffrey (Barb) of Middlefield; grandchildren, William III (Karen), Jason and Chad Skomrock, Glenn and Randy (Dawn) Baynes, Christine and Derek Roche, Jennica (Kevin) Bellanca and Britny and Zakary Gray; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Francis(Anne), Robert and Bethal (Joseph) Tracy. William was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred and brother Albert. Mr. Skomrock was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War, member of the American Legion Post 663, a 50 year charter member of Newbury Volunteer Fire Dept., Newbury Board of Appeals and Geauga County Veterans Commission. William belonged to several coin clubs, was an avid gardener and known for his famous home-made dill pickles. Mr. Skomrock was employed by ROVA Co. for 70 years. Family and friends will gather at 11 am on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Newbury United Community Church, 14916 Auburn Rd., Newbury, OH 44065 for a Service of Remembrance at Noon.
