He graduated from Lane Tech in 1969. Right after he graduated he went into the Air force Reserve. He was stationed at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Later on in his life Akki became a Chicago Police Officer and retired after 30 years of service.
He had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
He will be best remembered for his outspoken personality.
Akki was survived by brothers John Mares and Jules Mares, sister Jenny Ori, son Dylan Mares, and step-son Joshua Lorenzo.
A memorial visitation for Akki will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646
