We celebrate the beautiful full life of Alan J Fleck, who passed away peacefully at the age of 97, in the arms of his wife, on September 11, 2026. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, preceded in death by his late wife of 66 years Fern Fleck, and preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Mae (nee Christiansen) and Albert J. Fleck; his siblings Roland E. Fleck, Robert L. Fleck, Barbara M. (nee Sterett) Fleck, and Kenneth G. Fleck. Loving and devoted husband to Gabriella Fleck, exemplary father to Michael P. (Janice) Fleck & Alison (Curt Ob.) Schultz, proud grandfather of Sarah(Brad), Jessica(Tyler), Ryne (Jess) and Rachel(Nick) and Great grandchildren Bailey, Forrest and Sadie.
Alan graduated from Lane Tech and shortly after, with a strong sense of duty, he enlisted in The United States Air Force, where he served with honor and courage alongside Great Britain as part of THE EIGHT AIR FORCE SAC during times of war. After service he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant.
Once home, he reunited with his love for the arts by attending and graduating from The American Academy of Art: Chicago Art School & Design, from where he began his career in advertising as a commercial artist, for Needham Louis & Brorby, to then use his expertise to follow his own path.
Always the artist, Alan enjoyed playing golf, bonsai tree trimming, constructing elaborate and detailed sail boats, building no ordinary snowman, but an Abraham Lincoln out of snow no less and carving art on apples for the children, among many other things.
With a passion for Bagpipes, Alan joined the Chicago Highlanders for many years, of which he was so very proud to be part of. He played for The Queen of England and her husband and at a ceremony where an illustrious poet was being honored, just to mention a couple.
Alan was and always will be a unique and extraordinary man who led by a beautiful example; His unwavering love, integrity, wisdom, kindness and warmth, shall have him forever in our lives. Rest in peace. Amen.
