One thing to remember about Alfons is that he had a deep love for God and a heart for those who were in need. He loved the times he would spend with his siblings and their families. He also loved fishing, (especially those trips to Canada with the guys in the family), reading, working on his computer, traveling in his younger years, and cooking/baking. His last job entailed working for Highland Park High School as the bookstore manager. He most enjoyed interacting with the students and his coworkers. One of Alfons’ first jobs was working for Clarendon Foods where he worked as a stock boy and later learned the trade of being a butcher and managing the store. If anyone had any questions about cuts of meat or cooking, he was the ‘go to guy.’ At one time he and his brother, Robert, owned Harding meat market. Always a smile on his face when dealing with the customers. He also worked for Beltone Company and Wieboldts in Chicago as a Systems Analyst.
Alfons is survived by his loving siblings Dolores (Fred) Anderson, Raben Collins, Robert F. Van Duyse, and Jacqueline (Craig) Streem; his adoring nieces and nephews; his cherished great nieces and nephews; his beloved great grandniece; and his dear cousin Ria (Ludo) Uytdraegers-Verloo from Hoboken, Belgium. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother in-law Rick Collins and his sister in-law Citronella Van Duyse.
A visitation for Alfons will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, with a Memorial Mass to begin at 11:00 AM at St. Padre Pio Parish, 5601 North California Avenue, Chicago, IL 60659. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, River Grove, IL.
