Amelia J. Rudin, 78, of Gurnee, IL, died peacefully on the evening of Friday, May 4, 2018 surrounded by her daughters at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Amelia (Amy) was born February 24, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the second of six daughters to Joseph and Eugenia Nieminski. She graduated from Tuley High School in Chicago in 1958, attended Sabin Teacher’s College, and then worked for The Chicago Historical Society. She then married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Rudin, on January 16, 1960 and began their family. Together, Gene and Amy, enjoyed 57 years of marriage and have 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Besides being a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Amelia enjoyed the arts. She played the violin and accordion as a girl. As a teenager, she was awarded a scholarship to study art at The Art Institute of Chicago. It always remained one of her favorite places to visit. Later in life, also enjoyed attending musical theater and concerts.
She held various positions though out her life, but was most satisfied with her role as a mother and grandmother. She was most proud attending graduations, art shows, and sporting events for her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, eldest sister Arlene, and parents Joseph and Eugenia. We find comfort in knowing that Amy is now reunited with her loving husband, sister, and parents.
Amy is survived by her children Dawn and David Narens, Eric Rudin, Karen and James Kennedy, and Lisa Rudin; and grandchildren Jacob and Kimberly, Daniel and Ashley, Zachary, and Kaitlynn Narens, Erica Keith, Sean, Ryan, Kyle, and Kelly Kennedy; great-grandchildren Prim Narens, Elijah and Lily Keith; as well as her sisters Annette, Anita, Andrea, and Autumn, and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, where Amelia and her husband were members. St. Mark is located at 3350 N Delany Rd, Waukegan, IL 60087. A luncheon will directly follow the services for all family and friends. Amelia’s ashes will be laid to rest with her husband Eugene at Mount Olive Cemetery in Chicago. This will be held at a later date with immediate family.
