Andrew E. Hayslip was born August 13, 1978, in Chicago, Illinois. He leaves behind a remarkable collection of friends, godchildren, honorary nieces and nephews, and chosen family who were fortunate enough to love him and be loved by him.
Andrew was fiercely intelligent, spoke too many languages to track, had an infectious laugh, and could make friends almost anywhere. He loved music, thrifting, animals, laughter, good conversation, and finding beauty and humor in places others might overlook. To many he was Andrew or Drew, and to a very special group who grew up loving him, he was forever Auntie Andy.
Andrew lived a life that was colorful, complicated, sometimes difficult, and uniquely his own. He faced tremendous loss and challenges but also showed incredible resilience. He volunteered his time helping others, formed friendships everywhere he went, loved deeply, laughed loudly, and left behind more stories than could ever fit into an obituary.
Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved mother, father, and brother, with whom he will be laid to rest. His Catholic faith remained important to him, and those who loved him find comfort in believing that after far too many goodbyes, Andrew has finally been reunited with the family he missed so deeply.
Andrew’s biological family may have gone before him, but he did not leave this world without family. His friends became his family, and many loved him as a brother, uncle, godfather, confidant, and one of their very best friends.
Those who knew Andrew will remember his intelligence, enormous personality, unmistakable laugh, and above all, that life was simply more interesting when Andrew was in it.
And because a quiet goodbye would never quite suit him, those who loved him will gather to celebrate his life in true Andrew fashion at Auntie Andy’s Heavenly Hoedown.
