It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonio “Tony” C. San Agustin, Jr., who entered eternal life on October 18, 2026, at the age of 65. A beloved brother, uncle, educator, coach, and friend, Tony lived a life grounded in faith, devoted to family, and enriched by a genuine love for others. His kindness, wisdom, quiet strength, and wonderful sense of humor touched countless lives.
Tony was the son of the late Antonio San Agustin, Sr. and Laureana C. San Agustin. He was born and raised in San Pablo City, Philippines. After immigrating to Chicago, he spent his teen and adult years there.
Family gatherings were among Tony’s greatest joys. He always made time to listen to the children’s stories and laugh at their jokes. There was always room on the couch beside him, especially when Wimbledon was on the television.
Tony also treasured his friendships, especially his special bond with Bill and their weekly lunches and dinners. Sharing meals and good conversation with friends was one of his favorite pastimes.
Teaching was more than a profession for Tony; it was his calling. For nearly three decades, he dedicated himself to the Chicago Public Schools, inspiring generations of students. He helped guide his students into becoming scholars and well-rounded individuals.
A proud alumnus of Nicholas Senn High School, Tony returned there to teach science and coach the varsity tennis team. Later in his career, he taught at Theodore Roosevelt High School. He took genuine pride in his students’ growth and success.
Tony lived his faith in his quiet and humble manner. A devoted member of Belmont Assembly of God for many years, Tony sang in the choir, taught religious education, ministered to singles, and helped advance missionary work in Jamaica.
Tony is lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings: Amy San Agustin-Cruz, Bayani San Agustin (late-Vita San Agustin), Ray San Agustin, Minnie San Agustin, and Patrick San Agustin (Paula J. San Agustin); his nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends.
He is reunited in eternal rest with his beloved parents, Antonio San Agustin Sr. and Laureana C. San Agustin and his departed siblings: Edgardo “Gary” San Agustin (Nelia D. San Agustin), Divinia “Debbie” San Agustin, and Eleanor “Lennie” San Agustin.
Please keep the San Agustin family and all those who loved Tony in your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tony’s memory to the Anti-Cruelty Society at anticruelty.org.
