He was born just before the Japanese war in Canton, China during a period of
turmoil and hardship. Arthur was fortunate to be chosen to immigrate to the USA
(San Francisco’s Angel Island) at the age of thirteen.
The rest of the family eventually relocated to the safety of Hong Kong in the late
1940s during WW2. Arthur was then able to live a normal life growing up in
Chicago. He completed his education at Englewood High School majoring in
shop electronics. He served in the US Army during the Korean War in the early
1950’s. So proud to be an American, he later served as a color guard for Chicago’s Chinatown American Legion branch 1003 up until year 2016. He was introduced to his wife, Kam Lan (deceased), in the late 1950s. He was a maitre-d with a high standard of excellence serving fine dining establishments such as Sheraton Hotel’s Kon Tiki Ports, and later retiring from the Chicago Athletic Club.
Arthur is survived by a daughter, Mae, and a son, Robert (Laura), both of whom
were raised successfully, completing their college educations, and are now in
their respective professional fields. Arthur also spent many years nurturing his
loving granddaughter, Katie, the daughter of Robert (Laura). In Arthur’s last years
he battled health issues, but was still able to provide for his family. He was a
devoted fan of sports TV, especially Chicago Cubs baseball and Chicago Bears
football games.
Let us remember Arthur for what he brought into this world and the many happy
memories that live with us. Although he did not publicly express his religious
beliefs – many times he mediates in prayer that God is watching over us and
leads us to our fate. We believe he has accepted his fate and will be watching
over us in heaven.
May all the happy memories of Arthur stay with us for a lifetime.
Arthur’s family thanks all who come to visit him one last time, in this world we live
in.
