

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Barbara Ann McCoy-Cohns announces her peaceful transition on October 31, 2025. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 17, 1953, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Rosie Lee McCoy and Albert McCoy, who both preceded her in death.
Barbara Ann was a devoted mommy, mother, sister, aunt, close friend, and friend to all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her heart was expansive—she cared deeply, loved fiercely, and touched lives with a gentleness and compassion that reflected her unwavering faith in God.
She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 15, dedicating her life to His service. Barbara was a living testimony of God’s goodness, openly sharing the love of Christ with everyone she encountered. Her walk with God was sincere, steadfast, and full of joy. She frequently expressed how good God had been to her, carrying that gratitude into every relationship and every moment of her life.
Barbara was full of life—vibrant, uplifting, and joyful. She loved to travel and embraced new experiences with excitement and appreciation. Her family was her treasure. She loved her children with all her heart, cherished her sisters and brother, and held every immediate and extended family member close in spirit and affection. To her friends—both longtime and new—Barbara was a confidant, a supporter, and a source of warmth.
Her passing came as a shock to many, yet her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives she impacted. Barbara Ann McCoy-Cohns leaves behind memories that will forever comfort and inspire those who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert McCoy and Rosie Lee McCoy.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three beloved children, DaWanna Adeniran, and DaWanna’s children Rachee Johnson and Antonio Richardson, Calvin Murphy and his daughter Sharay Shines, Jolene Murphy, and Jolene’s children Sir Laurence (Sir) King Maleche Murphy and Amaya Murphy
She is also survived by her siblings Berniece McCoy, Rufus McCoy, and Valencia Cambric; all her nieces and nephews; her extended family; and her dear friends who stood by her through thick and thin especially Ms. Doll along with all who were blessed by her presence.
Though Barbara’s earthly journey has come to a close, her spirit lives on radiant, joyful, and at peace in the arms of the Lord she loved so faithfully. Her life was a testament to grace, her heart a reflection of God’s love, and her legacy a lasting gift to us all. May her memory forever be a blessing.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Andrew J McGann & Sons Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60655, with a chapel funeral service to immediatly follow beginning at 11:00am. Interment at Lincoln Cemetery, 12000 S Kedzie Ave, Blue Island, IL 60406.
