Barbara J. Schmitz

Barbara J. Schmitz (nee Lotto), 74, of Chicago passed away on July 4, 2026. Beloved wife of 50 years to Nicholas Schmitz, who preceded her in death. Barbara is survived by her daughters Brenda Rosspank, Donna (Christopher) Sainz, and Karen (Matthew) Harkenrider; her grandchildren Samantha and Kristie Rosspank; Julia and Maya Sainz; Darwin and Miles Harkenrider. She was also a loving aunt and cousin to many.

Barbara had a warm and generous heart, always putting her family first. She loved her home and always enjoyed spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. Barbara was the matriarch of a very close-knit family and also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, on July 24, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, prayers to be held at 6:30pm and again on July 25, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4350 W Sunnyside Ave, Chicago, IL 60630, on July 25, 2026, at 10:30 am.

A Chapel Service will be held at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 8600 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL 60714, on July 25, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
