Carl H. Adler, 93, of Chicago, IL, passed away March 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. He excelled at coming back from life threatening illnesses to return to his old house, his writing, his own cooking, hours of reading and his family. He was a lifelong Bear fan who played football at DePaul Academy. He studied Creative Writing at The New School of Social Research in New York. He met his wife, Naomi, at Roosevelt University where he got his BA and MA in English, during night school, receiving The English Department Award "in Recognition of His Meritorious Work in the field of English." He began his teaching career in the Chicago City Colleges at Crane Junior College. When Crane became Malcolm X, Carl, as Chairman of The English Department, was instrumental in the selection of the first African American College President there. He went on to work at Wright College, focusing on teaching Creative Writing and English as a Second Language. He took great interest in his night school students. After early retirement he worked on his writing, having published many short stories and poems in literary magazines throughout the years. When Naomi became ill, he was her devoted caregiver. He was quick to laugh (at himself in particular), optimistic, with an incredible memory for Bear games and was extraordinarily well-read, the beloved father of Eva Adler and Lorica Adler (Mark Sidoryk), cherished grandfather of Nikita Sidoryk, beloved brother of Richard Adler, and Betty (the late Robert) Babecki, fond uncle of Robert (the late Lise) Babecki and Susan (Richard) Becker, loving great uncle to Charles and Genevieve Babecki, Alexandra and Jason Becker. Preceded in death. by his loving wife, Naomi, and brother, Paul. Visitation to be held at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 4pm-8pm.
