Dear Celia’s family- 

Please accept our heartfelt prayers and condolences. We knew Celia and Hermi from meeting them over 20 yrs ago at St Viator church in Chicago. We bounded as my husband is from the Philippines and they doted lovingly on our 4 children. We had moved to TN them to Kansas but we would exchange Christmas cards and when I went to write this year’s out something made me check online and I saw the obituary notice.

I met your Tita Che on her birthday during my first trip to US with Liza in 2018.

May she rest in peace in God’s love and embrace.

I think that Tita Che would be happy to know that she is responsible for bringing our family together again.  It warms my heart reading all of my cousins fond memories of her.  We were the children she never had. She was kind and generous. Always knowing where the best food was and making sure everyone was taken care of.  It comforts me knowing she is in a good place and in good company.  With Lolo, Lola, Mom, Dad, Tito Wil, Tita Pura, Tita Lilly... Rest in peace Tita Che.

I can write a long list of admirable qualities that my Mama Che embodied— it will go on and on. But I guess what I love the most about her is her generous spirit.  I love the way she takes care of people, making sure they have what they need, and oftentimes, putting their needs above hers. One of my fondest memories of her was a trip to Chicago. For my primary school graduation, she took me with her to Chicago, where I spent months with her. She’d always took me out to eat (Popeye’s and Pete’s pizza are my favorites), she bought me gallons of fresh milk to drink, and always had pasalubong when she went home from her work. One time, she went home with 50 pcs of chicken nuggets from McDonald’s, which was way more than I can handle. But that was how she has always been- so excessive and overflowing in showing her love for people. Being born in Chicago, I guess you took care of me during my first days in this world.. and I am deeply burdened I couldn’t return the favor during your last days. I find consolation in the fact that you are now with Mama Lily, and I know you will be happy and peaceful together. Mama Che, being your apo has been one of the greatest privileges in my life. Someday, I will be able to hug and thank you, but until then, I will keep you in my heart and prayers. I love you. 

Rest in peace, Mama Che. We are very blessed to have you in our lives. Thank you for always being so kind, generous, and loving. I remember when I was younger, that whenever you came home to the Philippines, you would treat us with tons of Fannie May chocolates, and you would always take us out for dinner almost every weekend! I love you and will miss you so much. Please tell Mama Lily that I love her and I miss her too when you see her in heaven.  I will never forget you and I will always pray for you. Enjoy playing at the Casino in heaven with Mama! Until we meet again.

To my ever dearest Tita Che, I love you very much and will miss everything  about you. You are like a second Mom to me.  I will miss all your calls especially on special occasions...i won’t be able to hear you call me “Ne” (that’s what she calls me)...you are one of the most generous, kindest and selfless person i’ve ever met..my only regret is that i wasn’t able to take care of you and wasn’t by your side on the last days of your life..and what hurts me the most, is that i wasn’t able to say good bye to you...I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Tita Che you were always strict, but generous. You showed your love with food. A lot of my memories with you involved enjoying delicious meals, especially of Chinese food from Furama. Even though I wasn’t old enough to gamble, I also enjoyed the times you asked me to drive you to the “boat” so you could. Of course, enjoying yet another meal together would be the reward. Little did I know at the time, that those were my little jackpots; the meals you treated me to. The last meal I had with you was 7 years ago... I wish there could’ve been more since that time. At least my sons got to share in that meal with you Lola Che. I look forward to telling my daughter stories about when you took us for “pasyal” growing up. Until our next meal... I love you Tita Che.
