Chuck was my first boss for my first job. Carl's Pizza was on the corner of my block basically and I always went there for gravy bread and pizza bread as a small kid. When I was weeks away from turning 16 I went in there and applied for a job. Chuck hired me and I started right away. I absolutely loved working there with Chuck, Gina, Artie, Wilt, Joe, Rosie, Brian, Ernie would stop in all the time, Joe D. Matt, and anyone else I may have forgotten to mention during my 4 years of working off and on there. After I started working there I realized how good all the food at Carl's Pizza was. I also was taught to work hard, be thorough, take pride in your job, and all the while having fun working with Chuck. He was a great story teller and I still say he's the best boss I ever had. I even have a dream about once a month being back there. I was excited we got to surprise him for his 65th birthday (I believe that was the one) I was able to stop in for a couple hours the last night he was open and we had a few drinks and shared some stories. Even after I worked there he was always so great to me and my family. Chuck you will be missed and you and your restaurant are a West Lawn legend and icon. Rest in peace my friend.
