Connie is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Ann, son-in-law Evan Knott, and granddaughters Helen and Lauren Chiumino-Knott. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
Born on July 17, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Alexander and Helen Kuzma, she graduated from Detroit’s Visitation High School in 1958. She took vows as a nun with the Adrian Dominican Order, and served as a sister and teacher in Florida until 1972. During her time in the convent, she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
After moving to Chicago, she taught at Queen of Angels Catholic Elementary in the Ravenswood neighborhood. She took a chance going on a blind date to see a musical version of Midsummer Night’s Dream. After the power went out during the show, she and her date ended up at the Sears Tower. The rest, as they say, was history. They were married July 12, 1975, in Chicago. Paul and Connie made their home in Livonia, Michigan for several decades before moving to Delavan, Wisconsin. She and Paul recently moved to Lincolnwood, Illinois to be closer to family.
Connie is remembered for her warm, thoughtful, and caring nature. She was a loving woman whose smile lit up a room. She had an enthusiasm for her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, younger sister Patricia, and brother-in-law Gary Flannery.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19 from 2 pm - 5 pm at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 20 at St. Gertrude Parish, 1420 W. Granville Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660.
