It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Craig Robert Humphrey, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all, who passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the age of 75.
Craig was born on August 7, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Craig and Evelyn Rose (Haefliger) Humphrey. He spent over 45 years working as a building engineer at Heritage Apartments, where he was deeply respected for his knowledge, dedication, and work ethic. In later years, he proudly worked alongside his youngest son, creating memories that went far beyond the job.
Craig had a deep love for motorcycles and classic cars, and was known by many as the “go-to guy” when something needed fixing—whether it was a car, a home project, or just offering solid advice. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Craig was generous with his time and talents, never hesitating to step in for anyone who needed support.
More than anything, Craig was a family man. He was a devoted husband who lovingly cared for his wife and doted on her endlessly. He was the proudest father of his three sons, never missing an opportunity to talk about their accomplishments or show up for their milestones. As a grandfather, he was unmatched—kind, present, and always ready to share laughter, stories, and love. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.
Craig had a special gift for bringing people together, and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by family. Whether it was a holiday, a birthday, or just a simple weekend, Craig made sure there were always good times, good food, and great memories.
He is survived by Katherine, his beloved wife of 47 years; his sons Mark (Corrine), Robert (Nicole), Craig (Kaley); his loving grandchildren Cody, Reagan, Mark Jr., Bella and Emily Humphrey; His mother-in-law, Loni Cerkoske; his brother-in-law, Robert (Diane) Cerkoske; and his nieces, Lauren and Cheryl Cerkoske. He also leaves a wide circle of extended family, friends, and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
A Visitation to celebrate Craig’s life will be held on Saturday, June 14th, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, located at Andrew J. McGann & Sons Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60655. All who knew Craig are welcome to attend and honor his memory.
