David Michael Kane, age 79, died at home on September 21, 2026, from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Chicago on June 23, 1947, to Robinson and Joanne (Nagel) Kane, both deceased. David was the first-born of six children. His brothers, Robert and Andrew, and his sister, Sharon, are in heaven awaiting his arrival. He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen and Charlene.
David married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on June 29, 1968. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Susan, Nancy (Jason), Barbara (Darren), Thomas, and Daniel (Holly). He is also survived by his three loving grandchildren: Nicole Kane, Colin Werner, and Erin Werner.
David was active in his Church, first as an altar boy, then as an usher, and later as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Catechist with the SPRED group and was a leader with the Cub Scouts. He was also part of a team that counted Sunday collections at Our Lady of Victory Church.
His professional career began as a computer programmer and ended as a systems analyst manager. He earned his BS and MS in Computer Science from DePaul University while supporting his family. His hobbies included building model train sets, gardening, and playing volleyball. He enjoyed building things—a playhouse, a shed, a bunkbed, a dollhouse, three toy chests, and numerous beds and bookcases. He remodeled three kitchens and turned an attic into living space for his children. He was a self-taught jack-of-all-trades, doing carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
In his later years, he became an amateur farmer. He purchased a small farm in Wisconsin and enjoyed planting trees and watching the alfalfa grow. He was hands-on with all types of physical work needed to keep up the beauty of the log house and the surrounding acreage. As his mental and physical health declined, he reluctantly acquiesced to the sale of the farm.
He will be remembered lovingly as a devoted husband, caring father, and a friend to all he met.
