To the Sobczyk family

I attended the FBI national academy with Dave and just found out about his passing. My sincere condolences to all of you. He was truly a wonderful person and I am proud and honored to have gotten to know him and spend the summer of 2001 with him. May he be at peace and enjoying his beloved Cubbies World Series win in heaven. May God bless Dave and your family!

I am heartbroken to have just found out about Dave's passing today. I knew Dave very well back in the late 80's and continuously since then. I had spoken to him only a handful of times over the last 15 years or so, but I never forgot him and I was truly blessed to have known him. He changed my life in so many ways - too numerous to include here. Sometimes a person comes into your life that has such an impact, even in a short amount of time, that they leave a lasting imprint - that was what he did for me. His voice still echoes in my head - he was ever the pragmatic, mellow, cool-headed guy. A "typical Chicago guy" in every way. I remember how much he enjoyed working at Murphy's, how he always knew someone no matter where he was, how much he loved the Cubs and how much he loved his job with CPD (most of the time). He was smart (book and street), dedicated, hard-working, honest and very ambitious. The last time I spoke with him, I was telling him how proud he must be of all he has accomplished and in his typically humble way he said, "not bad for a Polish kid from the city huh?". What I think he was most proud of though was his girls. On the few occasions we talked he always spoke of them and how wonderful they were. It was obvious how much he loved them. I will miss him for the rest of my life - he was a wonderful friend in so many ways and I have no doubt that whatever illness took him so soon, he handled it with the quiet grace and dignity that he always seemed to possess. I pray that his children, his wife and his family find comfort in all of the wonderful memories they shared together and that Dave has found eternal peace with our Lord. He has been taken far too soon - but I pray that he is watching over all of those he loved. Goodbye my dear friend - you will be greatly missed and always remembered.

I am crushed -- Dave was there for some of our best memories. My love and prayers to Kathleen and the girls as they navigate the years to come.

I knew Dave in the early 80's. I was a bartender  at Franki Z 's. he worked (undercover) Cabrini Green and we called him and his partner the Green Giants.  Shocked to hear of his passing.  He was smart thoughtful and caring. What a great loss to his wife and girls. He was one of the best.

Sincere condolences to the family.  Dave is a true professional in all aspects.  I had the pleasure of co-presenting with him in Louisville KY three years ago.  He never knew a stranger and was always ready to assist and offer his opinion and knowledge base in all areas of the Fusion Center and NSI processes.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave's wife and children; I was glad I got to see him even if just for a few minutes before he passed.
Dave and I worked together in Organized Crime Division at CPD, and I was happy to help establish the suburban desk when Dave was tasked with putting together CPIC. He was a tremendous person, a great cop and a good boss.  We are all better for having known him.

Our condolences to Dave & family. We ran the Cragin neighborhood over a decade. What a fantastic friend. It was great to have one last chance to see Dave before he passed.

Only the fondest of memories are recalled regarding Dave during St Stan's and Weber HS years....gentle, fun-loving,...a regular guy. Prayers for him and his loved ones during this difficult week.

I am so sorry that Dave passed away.  It was a pleasure to know him for the short time that I was his massage therapist at Holy Family. He has been blessed to have his loved ones by his side through his ordeal. His spirit lives on and he will watch over all of you from above. I will always remember how he faced his situation with quiet strength and courage. My heart goes out to his family.
