DeElla Jackson was born April 5, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois. She departed this life August 12, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at Advocate Trinity Hospital. She was educated in the Chicago Public School system. Graduated from George W. Collins High School and later on she completed a Computer Training Program. De, (but we called her Granny) was outgoing, strong willed and always on the move, no use telling her to rest she would look at you and say, “ I had enough rest in the hospital” and she would laugh and walk on (that was her good day). DeElla attended New Upper Room Baptist Church and was a member of the Children’s Choir. At the age of 10 she confessed a hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Reverend S. L. Rice.
In later years DeElla attended Second Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois, where she resided. She was under the Pastoral leadership of Pastor Larry Tyler. De was an obedient servant of the Lord and acquired a personal relationship with the Lord. De had many conversations with her sister Charlene about the Lord, and spoke openly about being at peace with the Father in Heaven. She had one brother Malcolm MaGhundhi who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one son, Devin; parents, Otis and Cynthia Elaine; one brother ,Utarus (Melinda); two sisters, Charlene and Stephanie; grandmother, Thelma; 11 uncles, 10 aunts, 7 nieces, 9 nephews, 6 great nephews and a host of cousins and friends. De is continuing her journey as we celebrate her home going. Don’t think of her as gone away, her journey has just begun. Life holds so many facets this earth is only one. God saw the road getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, he gently closed those loving eyes and whispered softly “In the days of pain the sleepless nights have passed sleep and take your sweet rest”. Visitation Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012, 5 - 8 p.m. and Thursday, August 23rd from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10 a.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago. Interment Montrose Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Drake & Son Funeral Home, 773-561-6874.
